happy 4th of july

Explosions have been going off since about 9:30 AM. Hell, who am I kidding. They've been going off since last month. The dog is managing better than she has in past years, so far. Keeping my fingers crossed that she stays this calm once the sun goes down. 

The plan for tonight is cheesy action movies with the volume cranked up well past acceptable levels. Last year we watched Broken Arrow and Face/Off, which is going to be a hard combo to beat this time around.

I'm dying to write, but it's much too distracting. There's no rushing this chapter, no matter how excited I am to post it. So I think I'm going to set the laptop aside and enjoy some burgers and hot dogs instead.

I hope your dog did well the rest of the night! My town banned personal fireworks a few years ago, not that that's ever stopped people, but this year has been surprisingly quiet other tha the city display.

What movies did you end up watching? I haven't seen the two you mentioned in YEARS. I love a good cheesy movie fest!

Fireworks are technically illegal here, but it doesn't seem to stop anyone. It finally tapered off around midnight. Even now, two days later, there are still random bursts going off. I don't know how anyone has anything left!

We watched Twister! It had been a while since I last watched it, and it was fun (and even better, it was loud).

It was weirdly quiet in my neck of Bklyn on the Fourth, for which we were grateful because we are surrounded by idiots who against advice from knowledgeable people went the extra mile to find and adopt dogs preselected for skittishness and noise phobia. Said neighbors also find it ~unnatural~ to knock the poor beasties down with anxiolytics for Noise Holidays, because it's better for them to experience hours of howling terror BUT I'M NOT BITTER WHY WOULD YOU THINK THAT. Anyway, it's Sunday now and probably over phew.

My neighborhood has, it seems, gone firework crazy. If I get jarred out of bed after 11 by a sudden sequence of explosions (and the subsequent barking dog and crying baby) one more time, I might start to go a bit crazy too.

(Last night was great. Can you tell? Hooray, random Tuesday, you know what would make that EVEN BETTER? Half an hour of nonstop fireworks! Yeah!)

ACK, I feel for your neighbors' dogs so much. Poor things. I'm glad your neck of the woods was relatively quiet for your sake and theirs.
