Organ Smoothie Cult

IMDB tells me this episode was actually called "Nothing Lasts Forever." Sure, fine, whatever. We can agree to disagree, IMDB.
This was my last live-aired XF episode. I will probably watch the finale at some point, but after it's aired and I've spoiled myself enough to feel sufficiently numbed.
Spoilers and impressions below the cut!
First things first. This episode was DISGUSTING. And I don't say that lightly. If someone put Home and Sanguinarium into a blender and turned it on, it wouldn't even begin to approach the levels of gross-out that this one went for.
So there's a plot involving organ theft. And a girl who's killing organ thieves because her sister's a cultist? I don't know. She goes to church and makes weird and frightening proclamations of vengeance to her priest. Scully goes to the church too, and lights some candles.
Long story short, the organ thieves are cultists. They call the organs their "dinny" and put them in blenders and grind them up into delicious smoothies that they chug down with all sorts of delightful squelching sound effects. Apparently drinking organ smoothies has an age reversing effect. Or something.
There's a cult leader lady who fancies herself a 70s television star. Her husband likes to sew young women to his back and roll around in a wheelchair with them. This apparently also has an age reversing effect. Look, I don't know. I didn't write it. I barely understand what they were even going for.
Most of this is just a vehicle to cram in as much Mulder/Scully fun as possible between the fountains of gore. It's like they were working off of a checklist. Mulder sticks his fingers in random goo? CHECK. Mulder and Scully engage in an absurd amount of bantering under somewhat inappropriate circumstances? CHECK. Mulder gets squeamish? CHECK (though, to be fair, I think we were all fairly squeamish at this point)
Mulder gets a pair of glasses and is insecure about it. Scully teases him charmingly and says "GOUT" really loudly so that people turn around and stare at him. Mulder acts extra Mulder-y in order to scare off some other agents. Scully goes to church and Mulder is not his usual dismissive self, instead he sits in a pew and waits for her and listens when she tells what at first seems like a saccharine childhood story about the power of prayer and a sick brother but instead turns out to be about a puppy.
There's probably more I'm forgetting, but most of this is all eclipsed by the last five minutes of the episode, during which Mulder and Scully have a rare, genuine heart-to-heart. Scully reflects on her perceived failures-- her inability to keep William safe and the fact that she walked out on her relationship with Mulder. Mulder (totally and unexpectedly breaking my heart here) confesses that he wishes Scully had walked out on him earlier. He talks about how he wishes she'd run away from the basement office back at the beginning, and speculates on the different life she'd be living now if she had. It's an honest and raw moment between the characters and it made me cry.
Of course, then it gets television-tropey, with Scully leaning in for what looks like a kiss but turns out to be something SUPER SECRET that she whispers in Mulder's ear. Oh well. Can't win 'em all.
